I've put it in the sun, over an air conditioner vent (stunk up whole house!) sprayed the back with Febreeze and even put fabric dryer softener sheets with it sealed in a black gargage bag.
It's been 6 mos now and it still has an odor. I really need to be able to use it now that I know how!! I'm sensitive to odors and have to leave church sometimes because of strong perfumes but this green cutting mat is going to be the death of me!!! It's one of the large Olfa ones. Granted the smell is not as strong as it was at first but I can still smell it. Thanks for any help from anyone. |
I would contact the company and ask them to exchange it for one that does not smell!!

Try the peroxide and baking soda mixture like you would for a real skunk.

LOL I didn't know that! Do you think it will hurt the mat in any way??? I've thought about vinegar too but haven't tried it. |
I use vinegar for everything else, but I don't know if it would help or not. It worth be worth a try.

We were always told to bathe in tomato juice if you had a run in with a skunk and lost. Never had to try that 'de-skunking' method, though.
I understand about odors - I have the same problem. Good luck! |
Oh, my, I have been sitting here trying to figure out how your mat got sprayed by a skunk--I had some interesting scenerios going in my head. then I realized you meant that smell from when they first come home--that smell. No idea, but just wanted you to know you had me very interested in the possible stories involved.

I seem to remember the vinegar tip from an older thread, afterwards you just let the vinegar smell dissipate.
