Newbie Quilter here, so please be gentle! :D

I signed up for a class to make a quilt using jelly roll strips. I already have yardage of fabric that I'd like to use to make this quilt. The problem is that I had washed it all quite a while ago.

I can cut the 2.5" width, no problem. But the length has shrunk a bit .... it's about 42.5".

Should I use this yardage for a different quilt and buy actual jelly roll strips for this quilt?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Sherry

Welcome, hun! No fear, use your fabric. Strip it up! The shrinkage, well, IMHO, it's great to get that out of the way before you start sewing. (I do love the look of the crinkled quilts, tho-I just worry about bleeding.) If you start with a (real) jelly roll, you will most likely have shrinkage at some point, either in pre-wash or after-wash. Not a thing wrong with 42 1/2 inches WOF.

Just use the fabric that you washed-- it doesn't make that big of a difference.

A note for the future however is that if you're going to use (or may at some point use) fabric with pre-cuts, you won't want to have washed the "loose" fabric since you can't wash the pre-cut fabric.

I don't wash my fabric until I'm ready to use it and that way, I can decide if I want to combine it with pre-cut stuff.

HTH,
Marcia
