I've just started using my new "used" Megaquilter. I've had it serviced and already done a stipled quilt. I am working on my second quilt and the thread keeps breaking. I am on my third spool and second set of different needles. I could get a few stitched and then it would break - I am not unable to get any stitches before it breaks. Help!

I would search for a small snippet of thread or lint that could be hiding somewhere. Also, this machine loves to be oiled. I oil mine with every bobbin change.

I've cleaned everything (several times)... will try oiling. Thanks!

I had this problem with my Tin Lizzie 18 and found that the needle wasn't in straight. Put a straight pin in the eye of the needle and see if they eye is pointing the right way. If not, rotate your needle.
Needles of longarm machines don't have the flat part of the back and are perfectly round. They can get out of alignment and can break your thread. Good luck. It's a frustrating problem. |
What size megaquilter is it?

I have 2 MegaQuilters - 1on a frame and 1 on a table and I love both!! It's an awesome machine and makes a great stitch. As to needles, for FMQ try the Inspira topstitch needles - most Viking dealers carry them The eye is more square and thread doesn't shred as easily. After using them, I very rarely have thread shredding or breaking. Also make sure the thread isn't catching on the spool and that the needle is in correctly. This machine likes a lot of oil so don't be afraid of overoiling. My machine service guy was very impressed with this machine.Too bad they quit making them!! Hope this helps - good luck and enjoy this great workhorse. Marlene in HOT SW FL

Mega quilter does need oil in a couple of places. Before I start I put 2-3 drops in and let it run. I know just by the sounds when it needs oil. Thread is very important. Mine loves King Tut. Superior charts are the best!

Thanks for the update about the oil .. that helped for a bit but I am back to breaking thread every few stitches. The needle is aligned and I went to hy Husqvarna dealer to get the recommended needles and thread.
