I am making table toppers for Christmas. I don't know what kind of batting would be best or none at all? I don't want them to be heavy as they won't drape nice on the table. Any suggestions?

Flannel, both as backing and batting.

I would use flannel as well -- make sure you shrink it very well before you use it

Flannel...preshrunk at least twice for shrinkage.

If it is to lay flat on the table I use Deco Bond with thin batting or flannel. If it is to drape over the table I use Fairfield traditional poly. It's thin and smooth. It gives a good drape and body to the project.

a low loft batt- poly's work well because they do not tend to shrink like cottons.
flannel or even just a layer of muslin works well too-
the battings that say they are good for clothing/home dec projects- low loft- low shrinkage.
