I am making some cushions for my Mother-in-law as a Christmas present, I started before I started quilting, so I have made one so far in just plain turquoise satin. Anyway, I have decided that since I have discovered this fabulous hobby, I would quilt the other two. I decided to have a go at free motion quilting using the darning foot on my machine, It was such fun!

Okay, it is a bit jagged in places, my curves are not smooth yet and the stitches are not even but I loved it! I had great fun and can't wait to have another go. I feel a few mug rugs coming on so I can practice some more.

I love that you just dove right in! I should do that more, instead of fretting about every little detail.

I'm so glad you had fun at it!

It is night here now so I can't take a decent picture, I will take one tomorrow in daylight but it is not very neat I am afraid, but we all have to start somewhere right?

Hi and welcome to the board from Iowa. The important part I heard in your note was "I had fun". That, to me, is the most important thing. Would love to see pics when you feel ready for show and tell (smile).

you go girl. I hear it all takes practice, practice, practice. You will get better the more you practice. Now say that really fast.

For all you pillow makers, what do you put in the seams on a quilted pillow? Do you use fringe, gimp, cording, what? Where do you put your zipper? What size pillow do you use? I tried to find foam pillows and had to settle for polyester filled ones instead. I bought the 20" size, but I couldn't find the right type of zipper at the store where I was. I'm thinking about making mine closing with decorative buttons and have that side decorative as well as the front. I just can't decided if fringe in the seams is too much with the quilting or if tassels on the corners will look better. So what have you done?

I make mine using the envelope method, that way I do not need to fasten them. I also do not put anything in the seams, just sew them right side together and turn the right way round, it works well for me.
