I started the piecing yesterday on my first Dahlia attempt. I'm using the Marti Michell templates. It's not as hard as I thought it would be but it is also very exacting. It takes a lot of marking, pinning, and careful sewing. The templates have marking holes to make dots where to stop and start stitching and where critical points need to line up. It's a lot like hand piecing to me. When I do that I put pins in exactly along the line of the finished size so that they are aligned.

I guess I'll see if it all lines up when I start to put the curved pieces together! Since I didn't know what I was going to make when I got 1/2 yd of each fabric I don't have enough of the last two large pieces of fabrics and I ordered more.

It looks great! I made one years ago when green & apricot were popular colours....does yours have a pattern around the outside edge of the quilt?

The Marti Michell directions have the pieced diagonal square/HST border but I'm not going to use that. I've been playing with designs and I want to do an applique border.

This picture is based on the yellow with vines fabric that I did a screen shot of and used the vines, buds, and a blue flower to make the border and the design on the pillow area. I ordered some hand dyed green that matches it for the vines and leaves.

Don't you just love the french country blue and yellow? I had my whole last house done like that. It really brings the wood furniture and accessories to life.

This quilt is so pretty. I think it will be perfect in your yellow room. Nice work.

Yes, I like the french country colors, they just seem to glow and they are so bright. I wanted to do a feminine looking quilt and when I saw the fabric then the dahlia it was exactly what I had in mind.
