Was wondering if you can use a zig zag stitch with a walking foot when machine quilting?

I don't think you can.

Give it a try if you dare, but I was told no with my Bernina.

I have Vikings and you can do any stitch with the walking foot, even the ones that back up for a stitch. Check with your machine manual and the directions that came with the walking foot. If your foot has a wide opening, then there should be no reason you can't use the zig-zag stitch.

For my Viking walking foot it has a system whereby you can attach other feet. To do a zigzag I would need to buy another special foot to attach.

Easier to use my Pfaff and keep the lever down!

The Walking Foot for my Viking has enterchangeable
feet so I can do zig-zag stitches too. Also I can
sew backward if needed with the Walking Foot on.

I have a Bernina and I can and have used a zig-zag stitch with the walking foot. Do not use it for stitches that go backwards though!

I do it all the time with my Janome 6600. Try it, it may work. Using a decorative stitch often makes a wonderful addition to a quilt.
