I am making twin size quilts for 3 of my grandsons. I want to use fleece. If the quilts are 70 X 90, and the fleece is 60 inches wide (right?) how much do I need? One fabric calc I used said 3 7/8 yd. That seems like too much. I have no math ability!
thanks for any help you can send my way! |
allowing for seam allowances and having the fleece go sideways, i come up with 4 3/4 yds

90" is 2 1/2 yards. Another 7/8 of a yard to cut vertically in thirds and sew together end to end comes up to 3 3/8 yards. So your calculator is in the ballgame. Fleece isn't always a perfect 60 and you have to cut off the thick edge that was on it so it could go through the machine. I wouldn't cut any less than thirds. Oh, add the 1/8 so the ends will extend beyond the quilt so you need at least 3 1/2 yards. Make the first cut over 90".

Thanks for your help. You mentioned several things that I hadn't considered. This board is full of such wonderful people!
