Need ideas on how to quilt this one
 

I've been trying to figure out how to quilt this one that's for my son-in-law. Everything I draw out for it seems too feminine. I love using sheets of clear plastic and wet erase markers to audition quilt designs! The blocks are 6 1/2". The inner border is 2", and the outer border is 6 1/2". I did a version of this quilt that I hand quilted, and on it, I did stitch in the ditch on all seams, then on the blocks, did outline quilting about 1/2" inside each of the triangles in the block. (I don't remember what I did on the borders.) I don't think that will work when machine quilting tho. It's too much ruler work, and too many starts and stops. I know I want to do something different in the borders, so no edge-to-edge.

Any ideas on a quilting design that will compliment the pattern? I'm pretty sure really intracate quilting won't show up on the prints, so I guess I'm looking for something that will give some nice texture and more of a masculine look.

How about echo squares within the squares composed of four triangles (or bigger if you wanted) or echo triangles within a block composed of four triangles as it would give it a neat zig zag pattern througout the quilt. For the inner gold/tan border I really like the look of a rope design on a male quilt and in the outter red border the clamshells or a repeating pattern to make it appear like bricks.

I LOVE IT.. The colors are Great.. I have no idea how to quilt it. I just wanted to let you know how wonderful I think it is.

Baptist fan I think for the main quilt, but that is a lot of start/stop. Something with curvy movement. Wavy cross hatch?

I was going to suggest Baptist fan too. It's a lovely quilt.

I would do the Baptist Fan for the interior. Stencils are available for various sizes of fan. I would suggest the 12" fan design. Would do a small curvy design in inner border as drawn and then a cable design for the outer border. Stencils also available. I recently did this on a similar quilt and it worked great. Of course there are lots of starts and stops for the fans but easy to bury the thread tails while watching tv. I used the Spiral Eye needle for burying the threads and it went fast. The Fan gives it an old fashioned look and is very easy to do with walking foot as are the other two designs.

Beautifully done. I always like to find a pattern in the quilt that makes it look like I set the quilt blocks on point.
I see you can do this in your quilt. Making a quilt look like it is set on point adds interest to any quilt.
