Sewing Scissors

The last time I did mending at my daughter's I was frustrated by her scissor selection. The scissors at the kids' play table were sharper! I'm looking for recommendations. I'm looking for something with about an 8" blade, as well as the scissors you would use to snip threads. Can't believe I sew almost every day and don't know the technical name for these.

She sews (and quilts) as time allows. So I want something 'very good', but not necessarily the top of the line. Any recommendations?

Thanks

I like Gingher's for scissors, they are well made and stay sharp.

I love my ginghers. keep them hidden away, out of others' sight!

If you get the brands in the States, Mundial and Elan are good, middle of the range scissors.

I splurged when JoAnn ran all scissors 50% off and got a great pair of Ginghers AND a great Fiskars set too! Well worth the money....but I leave "decoy" scissors laying out for DH to see when he comes in my sewing room thinking he needs to use my stuff....

I have two pairs of Gingher's, large cutting shears and short embroidery ones. I hide them. There is a mandatory misery sentence for anyone who touches them. I too leave some decoy scissors out, the ones there my grandmother must have used to build a house, cut through hide and possibly garden with...LOL I also have some small Fiskars which I like, but Gingher's are my fav's.

Hobby Lobby sells scissors by the check-outs, these have bright pink, green, purple or black handles. They only cost $1.99 each. I use them for anything but fabric cutting coupons any thing. And sometimes I use them on fabric and they actually cut great....
