From my pattern - Witch Witch? from Crazy Old Ladies.

Cutting Instructions
from background fabric - cut (9) rectangles 7 1/2" x 10 1/2"
from each 1/4 yd print, cut (1) 2 1/4" strip. These strips will be the borders for your blocks
from the black border fabric, cut (4) 1 1/2" strips for border, and (5) 2 1/2" strips for binding

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need anything else.

I have fallen in love with "Which Witch" but the only thing I know about appliqué is what the word means and how to pronounce it. Is this pattern at all workable for a flat-out beginner?

I think it would be suitable for a beginner. It's really only one block with just a handful of pieces. There are a lot of great free youtube tutorials on various applique methods. Find one that makes sense to you and give it a go!
