"on point" blocks/quilt
 

I am "attempting" to make a quilt with the blocks on point. I do not have a pattern...just winging it. However, I don't quite understand how to make and/or sew the set-in blocks that must accompany this kind of quilt. Any help or directions would be greatly appreciated. Happy Thanksgiving to all!!

Okay, you are putting your blocks on point. The only difference will be with the edge blocks. Instead of straight lines of blocks up and down, your lines of blocks will be diagonal. They will be sewn together the same way but will need that finishing block on each end to make a straight edge or corner. There is a formula for figuring out how big to make the edge and corner blocks and I am sure that there is a graph someplace. Can you tell us how big your blocks are?

On Bonnie Hunter's site, www.quiltville.com, under Tips and Techniques, there is a wonderful chart that tells you what size squares you need to make the setting triangles for different sizes of blocks. There is another chart that tells you how many sashing strips and cornerstones you need for a certain number of blocks. It's very useful.
