These are great for using scraps. I made 6 for my SIL with no 2 top fabrics. The bottom fabric was the same for all 6 (for cohesion) I used 5 inch squares and no fusible. They came out great!

Use a 10" square and do hot pads, with insul brite in it. Iv'e done many of them.

They're also really cute if you fold the squares into triangles. You get a coaster that looks like an hourglass block.
