I am new to the quilting world. I am 26, and bought myself a sewing machine last year to get back into sewing. I was taught to sew at the age of 8 by my great-grandmother but quit sewing around age 12. I having been sewing small things the past year like a set of 8 place mats for my mom who recently bought a new house and wanted a set to match her new kitchen. I also made myself a large square place mat to go in the center of my table. I have just been sewing the basic stuff...hemming pants etc. I have always wanted to quilt, but I don't even have a clue where to start!!! I have all the tools, and I even have some fabric bought that I want to use for a quilt. Now I just need to figure out where to start!! If anyone has any suggestions for a SUPER EASY beginners quilt, I would be thrilled to hear them!

Thank You,
Leona

Welcome from Washington state. You will love this site. I would suggest going to your LQS and ask what they have to offer in the way of either classes or a book. I learned with a Quilt in a Day, Elenor Burns book because there were no teachers nearby. It took longer than a day but it got me started. There are so many easy patterns, one of the gals will come up with one for you.

Welcome Leona - you'll get lots of ideas here! For a fist quilt I'd suggest a four-patch, maybe with alternate squares of a favourite fabric. And start small - a lap or crib size so you finish it quick and it gives you a sense of achievement!

Thank you everyone for your messages and the great advice!! I am going to look into all of your suggestions. It just started snowing like crazy downtown Seattle where I work, so I am going to position myself in front of the sewing machine when I get home and pretend I am somewhere warm : )
