Wow I just thought of a new use for tinker toys!!

They look like the spoolies my mom used to curl my hair when I was little. Talk about a frizzy mess! (O: Only mine were pink, I think.

Now I have to look for the boys old Tinker Toys...Great idea, Donna.

My grandkids might not be very happy when they see tinker toys on my sewing table but heck they are not here that much anyway!! They love playing with them.

Yep...that's what they look like to me...only mine/mom's were brown, not black. I kept a few just for old time's sake:)

I guess good minds think alike.Great Idea,You still need to make sure that the threads dont unravel on sticks.

I never thought of tinker toys but those little black pieces of rubber are the gromments that I used when I rewired foot pedals of old sewing machines.

That and a dowel sprayed with colored stain or paint. Interesting . But as dawnmarieodya said whats to stop them from unraveling. unless you wrapped the ends around the rubber grommet it does have a slit in it.

I was just thinking the same with these small dowels that I have. Would be cheaper than buying from a catalog.

Had to smile - Just received Nancy's Notions catalog and wondered how I ever got along sewing and quilting without all these thing-a-ma-jigs. Over 40 pages of 'must-haves'. The furthest into this century I've gotten is the rotary cutter and cutting board. Oh, and a Clover needle threader (works great for these old eyes). I'd rather buy more material, batting, and thread.
