Can any guru's give me some help?!
 

Ok I have been trying to find out about this sewing machine that was given to me..I pulled the plate from it yesterday and the numbers are 2000720. It is badged a 'perfect'. I was told it was very possible that it was a Davis Machine..I have no idea how old it is, or anything about it for that matter. I know that it is a nice machine and still works GREAT! any and all information anyone can give me would be AWESOME!! thank you!

Can't claim to be a Guru, but you do have a Davis Sewing machine. If it's a full size machine, it would be a Model D. Rough dating would be from 1910-1920. If the machine uses Davis long needles, closer to 1910. Standard household needles would be 1913 or later.

she came with all kinds of stuff in the drawers and she is in good shape, for being almost 100 years old, the cabinet is a little rough but that is to be expected.. it threw me when i saw there were 5 bobbins for her, I haven't taken her apart but believe she has one inside too making 6..I know that she uses the long bobbins..still trying to find out as much as I can and bewildered that i ended up with such a beautiful machine given to me!

Davis is a fascinating company. They did lots of different things very well. Most famous for there bicycles and Vertical Feed sewing machines. Well worth googling.

Yet another Davis shows up!! Very nice! I just got a Vertical Feed from around 1915-16 this past weekend. They are really nice, very well made machines. Be careful when you clean it so you don't harm the decals. ONLY use sewing machine oil on cotton balls, and go slow...it will take several sessions of careful cleaning with ONLY the sewing oil to remove the grime from the surface. Don't try to go too deep...the decals are rather fragile.

Someone on here said 'oil in the right places and set it in the sun for awhile, short while. It will warm and soften the gook and screws.' Sounds like a good idea.
