Teaching quilting

Has anyone taken a "teacher certification" class for a particular technique? If so, which program and are you teaching it?
If so, where? Quilt shops? Guilds? Where else?
I'm debating about doing a program and I'm curious if others have.
Thanks. :)

It been many years but I think I got a certificate from an Ami Sims hand quilting class. It was more of a joke thing for everyone in the class rather than an accredited degree. There is no reason you couldn't do something similar.

Did you actually teach her "stuff"?

No, believe it or not she taught the class to us back in the day (20 yrs. ago?). It was a very good class by the way.

I teach all types of quilting classes and don't have any teacher certifications, would not even know where to go about getting one. I teach for guilds, different shops, individuals and through adult education.

Some teachers/designers require certification in order to teach their method.
Others have certification programs (Quilt-In-A-Day) which probably adds to their cridentials as a teacher of Eleanor's methods. At a retreat in WV each fall there are at least two teachers who teach the Quilt-In-A Day method. The National Quilting Assn has a general teachers certification program which covers all aspects of teaching. It might be worth investigating for someone who is ready to jump into the quilt teacher pool. I would think that anyone considering such programs should investigate thoroughly what the rquirements are and the end and future results of having the certifiation, and the requirements to use only the supplies and quipment recommended for the method.

many teachers who are "technique" teachers are going to this type of program. Judy Neimeyer, Carol Doak, Betty Cotton, Karen Combs, and I know there are many more! I am on the list for the Carol Doak certification program now!

What do you teach? How do you "present" yourself to the places? How long have you been quilting?
Thanks for all the people who answered.

Jacquie, where is the program? What will you do with the certification? Will you actually teach? Just in your local area?
Thanks.

Thanks for the info as well. I have been teaching for a few years now and it might be well to have that certification to add to the business card. I just love to teach and see the enthusiasm of my students when they finish their project.
