thread
I would like to know when you are machine quilting on your home machine and using machine quilting thread on the top do you use the same thread in the bobbin? and what size needle do you use?

Sometimes I use the same thread, but more often I'll use a lighter wt in the bobbin. My most common use is Aurifil 50wt in the top and Mettler 60wt in the bobbin.

the needle type/size is dependant on the thread being used-
some people use (and love) bottom line or other 'bobbin' threads- some use the same thread top & bottom- it is (generally) easier to have good tension when the threads are the same- or at least the same weights in the top & bobbin. you can visit Superior Threads - they have free charts you can print off that tells you the different threads- their weights & uses---and what needle should be used with each one. The charts are a good resource! |
Sometimes I use my regular thread and sometimes I use Bottomline.

Amazing thread/needle/Tension tutorial (Jeank) thank you so much. I recommend this to anyone who has ever had tension issues.

I don't quilt on my home machine, but on a LA. Sometimes I use a 50 wt. cotton on top and bottom, sometimes Bottom Line in the bobbin. Sometimes I use a 50wt cotton on both top and bobbin, and sometimes I use Bottom Line in the top and Bobbin. It really depends on what I'm using for the back and how much I want the quilting to show up on the top.

Thanks everyone, you're the best!
