Does anyone know????

I have a friend that has a viking sewing machine and needs to know- is it a short shank or long shank. I can't tell by looking.

I have a Viking and it is a short shank. Measure from the plate to the first screw. If it is 1/2" it is a short shank.

Viking machines seem to need Viking feet which are always more expensive than ordinary short shank generic feet. The short shank feet which are fine on my vintage Singers will not fit my Husqvarna/Viking machines. Even the walking foot from my Husqvarna Prelude (class 5 Viking) will not fit my Husqvarna #1+ (class 1 Viking). I found that really annoying!

Oh no. So you're telling me Shelbie, that I should keep my old Rose forever? I like the idea actually. She's a really good machine. I'll just make sure I check out the feet before I buy a newer one. Thanks

I have a Viking Lily model #550 and it is a low shank. I think most all Vikings are.

I think the older vertical bobbin machines might have been more forgiving. I used to use Elna shank and feet on a Pfaff 1471. Bought a Viking 1+ and that used the same feet. Some also fit a Brother PC 6500, and an Ellure. I've used other low shank feet with ankle attached on all machines. It could have been stitch width. Earlier machines were all 6mm. Pfaff came out with the 1473 and changed to 9mm. I have some 6mm feet, but use the twin needle button for safety.

Just make sure the needle and the hole line up.
