I am starting to make more quilt tops, and what I'm discovering about myself is that I enjoy making sampler quilts more than quilt tops that repeat the same block over and over again. Not that there is anything wrong with that at all, so please don't get me wrong.

What are you attracted to? Are you like me? Do you like sampler quilts the best, also? Do you like paper piecing more than anything else? Do you like applique the best? How would you describe your personal style and the kind of quilts you enjoy sewing the most?

I like to make all different kinds of quilts, but the ones I like the most are applique quilts. I like them because I do them by hand and can work on them anytime and anywhere.

90% of my work is original contemporary designs.

i use all methods such as foundation piecing, standard piecing, and applique both turned and fused.

then i embellish the quilt with elaborate beading, needlework, bobbin work, and foiling.

a lot of my fabric is dyed and painted by me before i cut it apart to make quilts.

I tend to go for the country scrappy look. If a quilt is very designed it turns me off for some reason. They just don't feel as comforting if it is too Perfect.

Hi, I have quilted about 80+ projects so far: pillows, quillows, wallhangings, small framed landscapes, placemats, lapquilts, 2 twinsize-bed quilts, 1 kingsize-bed quilt, and I have several WIP. Except for blocks sometimes repeated for different people's gift pillows, I have never done the same pattern twice. There are just too many untried ones still out there for me to do! One WIP is my first using the same block over and over, I don't know how I will do the sashing and borders yet. My larger projects are all different patterns and techniques. I've done traditional patterns, newer ones I've found, used those blocks for a sampler once (so far), and created unique appliques, special for the recipient, sometimes with embellishments. I like to create landscape scenes and photo quilts. I've done patterns from books, magazines, online, and calendars, both new and classic.

So, as you can see, I do not have a favorite... I want to try it all!
I still have many older and modern patterns I want to make as well as a crazy quilt and the simple yellowbrick road too. Too little time!

When the day comes, my daughters weddings will be the last bed size quilts I make since the size is hard for my hands. Also due to my medical condition, I can no longer applique by hand; my hoops just sit there and make me sad so I hid them from view. I found paper foundation piecing hard to be considered fun, but may try it again someday, with a better teacher .

I do have one strong preference; the old traditional patterns. I seem to make those most often, in all size projects.

I like all different types. I like all the same repeat, especially if it makes a secondary pattern when put together. I like designing my own from traditional blocks and I like wholy traditional like log cabins.

I haven't done a lot of applique but I do like that too. It's very exacting work for me and sometimes I'm in the mood for it. The only type that I am not really keen on is the very contemporary and scenic type ones.

I'm sort of the same way, right now. I can appreciate a contemporary quilt with all of the bells and whistles; but right now, I prefer quilts that are 'utility' quilts.....Something that I can throw over myself while in bed or on the couch. I also like quilts that can be thrown in the washing machine.

I seem to like traditional quilts. And I like to repeat the squares. I appreciate the other types of quilt, just don't like to make them.

And, I'll admit, I really admire handwork of any kind. They radiate the person's time and love in each stitch to me.

However, I have a lot of respect for the art quilts, especially the interesting color techniques. I'm just not sure I'm smart enough to do them!

I started with traditional quilts, very little applique. I've done quite a bit of paper piecing. For a while, I made watercolor quilts, and I have a LOT of 2" squares in my stash! I love designing my own quilts and playing around with traditional designs in non-traditional ways. I've done a few arty quilts. I've given away almost all of my quilts as wedding and baby gifts. I estimate I've made 100+. One of these days, I'm going to start making a list! I have a scrapbook of pictures of MOST of them. When I give one as a gift, I ask the giftee to take a picture of the quilt with themselves or the baby in it. They ususally don't get around to doing it! But I always take a picture before it goes in the mail, so I have a record. I asked for a digital camera for Christmas several years ago, so I now take a picture at the last minute, and use it in a gift card with the quilt.
