No More Christmas Wrapping Paper

1 Attachment(s)
I have reached the point in my life where buying paper, however pretty, that will be ripped up and thrown away, sounds a lot like wasted money. In an effort to save a little dough that can be used for the presents, I have made fabric bags for Christmas this year.

They have some wonderful points. 1) they can be used repeatedly through many years. 2) there are a myriad of gorgeous Christmas fabrics to be utilized. 3) you can make them in any size you want. 4) A little ribbon or yarn holds the package closed. And 5) They take up much less space than those long tubes of paper.

I have made over two dozen of these bags, and will probably make some more. Also you do not HAVE to use Christmas fabric. Any fabric that you like can serve the purpose. Over the years I have bought a lot of Christmas fabric, and have only made two quilts from them. Some of the fabric I own have those built in “sparklies” that would wash off of a quilt anyway.

So what do you think of my idea?

Great idea, they are so pretty.

Wonderful idea. I will have to copy your idea for Christmas gifts and shower gifts

I have a good collection of Christmas bags that I use every year. The only presents that are wrapped with paper are for gifts given outside of my family. You are saving a tree and they look prettier too.

This is a good idea.

That is a super clever idea. I appreciate you sharing it with us.

I give quilts to my kids/g-kids for Christmas most of the time. I make pillowcases and embroidery their names on them and that is what I use as the wrapping paper. They all love them...even the adults.

They are so pretty how do you get them back to refill for next year?

To get them back, I just ask. No one has ever refused. Something to be mailed to another state would still be in paper. I have a fair amount left and then do not have to worry about my bags getting lost in another place.

Thanks for asking. I had not mentioned that part in my first post.

I have done some and thanks for motivating me to get busy on some more for this year. I have also decoupaged Christmas fabric to envelope boxes and tied with a pretty ribbon once I place the gift inside...those are reusable too!
