What is this?

I'm not going to get it, but I'm new to sewing machines and saw this one on CR.
Just curious as to what it is, it reminds me of an airplane lol

Nice cabinet but sure is an odd looking machine.

Yes, it has a very Jetsons look to it if you know what I mean. And if you know what I mean you're showing your age. :)

A slant-o-matic... Commonly referred to as a rocketeer... Nice machines... They are cam machines though

Yep, it's a Rocketeer that has lost its top, which is very common. Another weak spot is the face plate hinge on the left. The desk is one of my favorite styles -- I think it's called the Copehagen. Unfortunately, it looks like it has lost part of it too, the wooden piece that sits above the machine and keeps the dust off of it. Nice hunk o' wood there, though.

This machine has cams built in.

Basically it's a 401 in a different body. The controls are the same and it has the same built in cams, based on comparison of the owners manuals.
The top lid just snaps on and off so unless somethings broken or bent it shouldn't be a problem to replace it.
The face plate, well I don't know anything about that part ... yet. I wonder if the 401 shares the same type of hinge system with the 500?

Actually Joe, it's not as simple as that. The clips are hard to come by so it can be a challenge to fix. That's why the lids tend to go missing.

Candace, why did have to go and pop my bubble? I guess that's where donor machines come in at ... as much as I hate to say that.
