Help! How should I quilt this?

Hi Ladies! I have been working on this quilt/wallhanging for years. My goal is to hang it in my workroom. I made a quilt top and then gradually placed all the souvenir patches from all over the country that we have traveled to and collected since our kids were small. Now, I have it all completed except for the quilting then to the binding. That is where I am stumped. I have been staring at this project for weeks. All of you have such great ideas that I hope you can help me come up with a unique way to quilt this. I appreciate any help you can give me.

What about outlines of different states - situated so the stitching would not run over any of the patches? I think that would look nice and be an additional reminder of where you've been. Best of luck deciding...i'm sure you'll get great suggestions.

I would stitch in the ditch and then add a big X in the plain blocks...keep it simple to show off the patches.

I agree with Tresureit!

 What a great idea for a memory quilt for you! Depending on how large the blocks are and how far apart your batting needs to be quilted, what about quilting diagonally through all the solid blocks? It would show off your patches and be less labor intensive than SID around all the blocks.

I would outline stitch around the patches. I would then FMQ/write in the diagonal rows that don't contain patches something like the national anthem or God Bless America? I like the outline of the states ideas too.

Thank you all for your great ideas. I really need to get this project finished and now I think I can.

I would stitch in the ditch on all the blocks and you might want to put an x in the plane boxes or a design of some kind - simple.

This was my first thought as well. Then I was not sure this would be considered "unique" (Smile). But it is how I would do it.

you could do swirls or circles down the squares without patches, or stars if that fits better. lovely quilt!!
