Hand Quilting Question

1 Attachment(s)
I just recently attended the International Quilt Festival here in Houston, Texas. I saw several vintage GFG quilts and some were hand quilted differently. One was hand quilted around the inside and outside of each flower. The other was done the same way but also had hand quilting to the center inside and outside of the flower. Which is the proper technique?

I am entering my quilt in our local quilt show next April and want to make sure I have hand quilted correctly.

I am attaching a picture of one of my quilted flowers.

Thanks for any advise!

I don't think there is only one way to do it, but I'll watch what others post as responses. Good luck. Your fabrics are beautiful. Can we see the whole thing?

I think it's whatever you want to do. I like quilting around each of the little hexagons - It is alot of work, but I think it looks great when finished. Here's mine - w/ quilting around all the hexagons...

And your stitches are beautiful!! I think it's hard to quilt a GFG because there are so many seams to go thru.

I agree with Patti25324 - Not only one way, and beautiful and want to see the whole thing.

Here are pictures of the quilt top. Each flower is a different print. I purchased an Ulmer quilt frame and have been hand quilting each day. This quilt will be given to my grandson when he gets married. He is only 7 years old now but he will be my only grandchild. I have made him many quilts and he takes each one to bed with him a night. He loves to watch me sew in my sewing room!

There's no "right" way. Do what you think looks the best. Maybe search on Pinterest or other internet sites for pics of GFG and get some other ideas.

Very nice. This will be a wonderful heirloom for your grandson!

the quilting is judged according to technique--good even stitches---a design that is complimentary to the quilt- there is no (set in stone) design for any quilt you can quilt your grandmother's flower garden any way you want...some people quilt flowers into each (petal) some outline/echo quilt...some do alot- some do a minimum---all are as correct as the person wanted it to be.
