Customer measured wrong!
 

I just finished a quilt for a customer, adding an additional border to meet her size requirements (she measured). She loves the quilt, which is a huge relief, but when laying out on her bed, she discovered it doesn't drop enough to cover the mattress....a few inches short on each side. I am just not sure what I can do to fix the problem. I thought about making a ruffle and adding on three sides, thinking that might be the easiest. But am just not sure. Has this ever happened to you? and what did you do to make it right? Thanks in advance for any help.

[ATTACH=CONFIG]383058[/ATTACH]Can an additional border be added/pieced into the edges and treat it with a little different quilting method so it would look planned? I had to add a border (with a small contrasting flange) on to this quilt and it turned out fine. You may have to do the "quilt as you go" technique if you have quilted up to the edges and don't want to rip out.

The quilt was completely finished, include machine sewn binding (deco stitch too). So that would have to be cut off if I added another border. Customer is using a regular dust ruffle, so thought a ruffle on the edges of the quilt would blend from quilt to dust ruffle and be relatively easy to add. She is a good friend of the family and want to make this right for her, even though not my fault.

I like the ruffle on the quilt idea a lot. That's probably what I would do!

I agree a ruffle would be the easiest thing to add to this to get her measurements that she needed.

How about those triangles , senior moment....... Are they prairie points? But larger ones which are not folded into 1/4 but made, 2 square as facing each other machine all around outside edge , then cut diagonally. Sew diagonal into quilt.
Or could you make rectangles and have a foe tassels.?

did the quilt get washed after quilting - leading to the shrinkage? I know one time I had a quilt that when I washed it, it shrank much more than I had accounted for.

since the quilt looks to be longer than it is wide, why not just lay it across the bottom half of the bed and leave it alone?? I don't think adding a ruffle to the 3 sides will look ''right''.....I just don't think of quilts as having ruffles but maybe that is just me! Laying it across the bottom half of the bed will give the owner the drape she is looking for and will be a different look in the room....more modern maybe!! Turn the sheets down and let the pillows show...I think it will look very nice and modern

And add shams to match. Agreeing with above post.
