How Would I Make 35 FQs?
 

I'm doing a BOM (from Craftsy and it's for 2012 so I'm behind :)) and it calls for 35 FQs. How many yards of fabric would I need? How would I cut these? Do I just cut 35 18 X 22 FQs? I know I could order them online but I want to start working on this. I can look at JoAnn's.

1 yd makes 4 fat quarters. Cut your yd in half (18" = 1/2 yd). Then cut the 1/2 yd in half at width of fabric.

You get 4 FQs from each yard so you need 9 yards (you'll have one FQ left over). Cut them in 18" pieces across the width of the fabric and then cut each piece in half. The final pieces should be 18 x 21 or 22.

You can get 36 out of 3 yards, If that helps you any. 8 out of 1 yard .

I think it means different fat quarters. You don't want to go into your stash and just cut up your fabric into fatquarters. It means if you have fatquarters or if you want to buy fat quarters that is how many you need. It doesn't want you to cut up your fabric into fatquarters. I am taking that same class.

I did about 7 months of the craftsy BOM 2012 (i will do the others). My advice to you is to cut each month as you do it. I used white/ecru solids throughout the blocks. My mood for fabric shows in some of the months, some of the months you barely used part of the fat quarter, so I used leftover scraps.

this is not right...you get 4 QUARTERS out of one yard, but go with what the others said...don't cut all of your fabrics at fat quarters, because you may not need all of the fabric you cut. cut just what you need from yardage.

I also want to say "do not cut into fat quarters". Just make sure you have the variety and then use as you need them. I rarely have any list like 35 fat quarters where I did not have a lot left over.

Wait until you need to cut fabric into pieces and then pull out your stash and use what you have whether pieces or yardage.
