scalloped border - bias binding
 

I am entering unchartered territory here -- I have made a sweet baby quilt that calls for a scalloped border. The pattern wants me to cut 1 1/2" bias binding. Is this a requirement of the scallop - the stretchiness of the binding works better in the scallops? I am very happy doing a foldover binding - happy, happy, happy. I do know how to do a regular binding, but I've never done a scallop.

So I haven't cut the binding yet. What's the consensus? Bias is preferable or I can cut, fold in half, sew to front (or back) and pullover as usual?

It has to be bias.

I also agree, you have to do bias because of the curves. It will turn out good this way.

Sigh. I was afraid of that, but was hoping for some secret way to do this! THanks for the tutorial and advice. I've seen it demonstrated at a quilt club meeting so it's not completely foreign. I'll let you know how it all turns out!

What is it that makes you so nervous? Bias binding is applied the same as regular binding, the only difference is you need to put a little fold at the inside corners of the scallops.

all of it - cutting it on the bias - though I know I can follow a tutorial. I don't like binding at all - don't like joining the ends neatly - I watch the tute step by step - sewing each step then going back to tute. And I've made 84 quilts - about 30 of them with binding! Most of the time I pull the back over to the front, use an decorative stitch and call it good!

Bias binding isn't all that bad. I made a queen DWR with a scalloped border and it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Good luck

How do you pull the back over and sew it to the front? I am interested in that method. What measurements? Do you fold it 1/4" under on the front? or 1/2"? And how do you do the edges? You can't miter, can you?
