This quilt will be a single Irish chain. It's a wedding gift for my son & his fiance. Which option looks the best? Any other color ideas? I'm feeling very insecure about my choices :( .

I like the third one best. Just my opinion, tho. HA

I also like three. Any of them will be very pretty.

I like the second one

I like the second one.

the 9 patches show nicely on the second one, in the third I don't think there is enough contrast.

What are their color choices? If they hve a wedding registry at a store, it often lists their decorating colors. Gray is an "in" color right now.

Murphy is right - the 9 patch colors are bleeding into the solid in Number 3. I have a soft spot for brights on black so I like number 1. Have you purchased all your fabric? A black on black or gray on black may add more interest.

I don't think the nine-patches are right for a single Irish Chain in any of the photos. The chain should be uninterrupted in both directions, which means that the background color cannot be used for the corners of the nine-patches.

Also, the middle photo does not qualify as an Irish Chain because the nine-patches do not contain the background fabric.

http://www.quilt.com/Blocks/IrishChain/IrishChain.html shows correct placement of background colors for single IC.

The dominant color in a single Irish Chain is the background fabric. I kind of like the first photo because the grey is neutral and creates a great foil for the colorful batik chains. The blue fabric competes with the chains. My 2 cents....

I prefer the contrast of #1.
