Skunk smell remedy?
 

Our neighbor just came knocking at our door to ask for advice in getting rid of skunk smell. Last night a skunk followed their dog to the back screen door and sprayed through the screen, into their house. He said the smell is unbearable inside their house.

Their clothes, furniture, and everything in their house just reeks! He is looking for advice on how to get rid of the smell in the entire house. I told him tomato juice is supposed to work for the dog, but I didn't know about the whole house!

Any ideas or suggestions?

All I can say is pray! Oh my goodness. Did it get on the furniture? I don't know how far a skunk can spray. I would drag all the furniture outside or into the garage so I could wash it. Open the windows and situate fans so some of the smell can be directed outside. You might tell them to call HAZMAT or Service Pro professional cleaners. They will know what to do. It would be worth the money to have some one else do it. Insurance might cover it. That dog must have really irritated that skunk for the skunk to follow it right up to the door, unless it was rabid.

I'd call the insurance company! This is damage in the same way a fire is. My parents had a skunk (or skunks) under their house for several months. I remember visiting and getting something out of the cooler closet (the kind that has holes in the shelves to let cool air from under the house keep butter and such cool) and as I closed it my mother said "NO!" but it was too late. That cooler door and the toilet were keys that kicked off the skunks. The odor wasn't as great as this current experience, but it did fade away after a bit.....

I agree that I would call my insurance company. I have heard that vinegar & water will cut the smell of a skunk. So she may want to mix equal parts & spray the furniture. When my Uncle was a young boy he was sprayed by a skunk, back then they just burned the clothes. Let us know how things work out for her. :thumbup:

My dog played with a skunk last year and then ran in the house before I knew what was happening. I found that washing with soap and water just intensified the smell. Try heavy sprays of Febreez on the dog and furniture. That is the only thing that helped.

Baking soda. Powder the dog with it. Dump it on the furniture. Vacuum later.

How about odoban?
