Needles for English Paper Piecing?
What are the best needles to use for English paper piecing? And size? I am using 1" pieces with cotton fabric.
I use a small 10 or 12. I prefer the shorter length and find it easy to stitch small stitches.
I use the shorter ones too but have in a hurry used others. I think it's what you are comfortable with. imho

I use a 12 (same as for hand-quilting)...makes much finer stitches and once you get used to the size, you can zip along quite nicely.
My favorite needles for any kind of hand sewing are John James brand, Applique size 10. I've tried Betweens and Quilting, and they're both too small for my large hands. I've also tried Straw, which I did like, but they seem to bend rather easily.
I've used whatever I've had handy. Just try to use something that will give you the smallest stitches possible.
I use either John James or Roxanne needles - generally 'sharps' in either a 10 or 12- depends on what thread I am using- often for English Paper Piecing I use silk thread- I prefer a bit longer needle -betweens for me are just too short, 'Sharps' are a nice size for me, glide well and last through a project. use what you are comfortable with- that works well with your thread choice-
