what is the best way to get accurate sides on curtains
Hi
If making a long curtain panel, what would be the best way to keep sides, top, and bottom hem the straightest? Do you have any tips on this for me? Like when I turn one of the sides under for whatever measurement it might be, I have trouble keeping this hem the same size all the way acrossed. I even use a hem gauge and still have difficulty sometimes with accuracy. Just checking to see if you have a favorite way you do this. Thank you! |
I measure, pin, and iron in the hem

I hate doing curtains! The most helpful tips for me is to cut the length accurately and sew accurately. I pin up the hems where they should go and put them on the rod and hang them. Sometimes you need to adjust the hem to compensate for a crooked rod or floor before the final hem sewing.

If you can pull the thread to get straight of grain, that will help tremendously with all of your issues. Might have to do a small cut and then work your threads from the edge...not unlike quilting cotton doing the same process but far, far easier with most home dec fabrics.
