Any way to save this mis-cut border?
Hey everybody. I am so stupid.....repeat to infinity. I have a green and red stripe for binding that was supposed to be cut across the width of the fabric so that there would be horizontal stripes on the binding. Naturally, I very carefully and accurately cut it lengthwise...! Lengthwise stripe binding definitely doesn't add to the quilt. Do you think I could cut the lengthwise strips down into squares an sew them back together on the horizontal and make that work? Too much trouble? Thanks!

It would only be too much trouble if you think it is. Also depends on width of the strips.

So sorry! We've all made mistakes like that. Unfortunately, if you put lots of seams in the binding it will be bulky and very hard to apply to the quilt. I wouldn't recommend it. You could just save the strip of fabric for use in another quilt.

I wouldn't do that. Just chalk it up to a mistake. Of course you don't have to throw it away, just purchase more for your project. I always love a diagonal stripe for binding.

people make pieced borders all the time. I don't think the binding will be a problem with an appropriate technique.

Thanks for those quick replies. Hadn't thought about how bulky the seams would make it...not good in a binding. See, told you I was dumb!

I'd toss it in my scrap bin and cut more or use another fabric for the binding. I don't let fabric mishaps stress me fretting over saving fabric.

Just use it in another quilt as blocks. I don't think you are dumb. More heads are better than one.

A piano key border has a zillion seams and people do them all the time. Just remember to stay stitch the outside edge so the seams don't pull apart when you quilt. You can also just use it as is and miter the corners!
