Minkee fabric/embroidery question
 

Can machine embroidery be done on minkee fabric?

Try it on a scrap and see how it looks! I've not tried.

I can't. I don't have an embroidery machine. Someone wants me to make them a blanket with minkee, but she wants her daughters name embroidered on it from someone else.

minky is quite stretchy so a good stabilizer would be necessary... probably a sticky stabilzer
and the stitches will probably disappear into the pile of the minky, so i would suggest put a fine netting over the top which would have to be cut around or use a soluble stabilizer which would require that the quilt be washed/soaked before gifting.

I use a sticky water-soluable stabilzer in the hoop and do not hoop the fabric, (just lay it in the hoop, the sticky stabilizer holds it fine). If the top has a tall pile, I also place a piece of the sticky stabilizer (sticky side down) on the top of the fabric. Then just either wash or moisten after its done and all the stabilizer comes off.

I did Christmas applique Santa placemats for DGD's and used minky for the beard...lots of fluff when cutting around the appl pieces, but worked just fine. I used temp spray to hold down the minky on the placement lines, then stitched around, then trimmmed. The final stitches showed up just fine (I laid a piece of washaway over the area so the stitches wouldn't sink in, and it just tears away cleanly).

I was told you can embroidery by machine on anything just remember to use the right stabalizer

probably but not delicate font designs unless you do a patch. You could probably do an applique design as long as its hooped and basted well the stretchiness shouldn't be a problem just like any knit its doable just depends on what you

Use a "topper" stabilizer on top of minkee before doing the embroidery, it washes away so no cutting, you can also use an iron steam to remove it too. This is what is used on anything with a high loft like minkee or bath towels.
