A Helpful Hubby With Real Talent
7 Attachment(s)
A friend of mine in another state asked my husband to make her a ruler rack for her templates. In no time at all, this is what he came up with. It is 29" long and has 9 template grooves. The great thing about it is that you can place it on the shelf or table OR you can mount it on the wall. And it didn't take him much time at all. He has always been willing to help me with any tool I need for my quilting including all of my templates. Let me know what you think. He is so special.
Here are a few of the other items he has made me A lap embroidery or quilting hoop (14" in diameter) The bottom is padded so you can use it as a pin cushion. I also have my small scissors attached to the upright pole. A ribbon rack for my ribbons used in craft projects. A thread spool rack An embroidery hoop that is form fitted to used by sitting on it and leaving your hands free. The position of the hoop is able to be tilted in any three different directions. A miniature ironing board I keep by my sewing machine for pressing seams open. (15" long and 7" wide) Also has a handle to carry to classes. Sorry this is so long but as you can tell, I am so thankful for his help and support. |
Your DH is definitely a keeper. Mine also likes to woodwork and often helps me square up my quilt tops for sandwiching. I am going to show him these photos too. I really like the spool rack. I bet the spools swivel don't they.

I love seeing all the neat projects he has done for you!! My husband is kinda like that, too. He just doesn't have a wood shop and his thing is anything electrical or handyman stuff and now he is starting to change a room in our basement for my longarm I am ordering soon. He is actually the perfectionist and I would often go cheaper or quicker! So patience is called for on my part.

You have a very talented hubby!!!
I especially like the spool rack. |
If he enjoys doing it and would like to do more he might enjoy starting an Etsy shop. There are lots of people out there who would love to buy handmade items like those. And Etsy shops are easy to set up. He could do it on a custom order basis so he doesn't have to build up a bunch of inventory until he sees what demand will be.

I love that spool rack and iron board! Has he considered making these for sale?
|
He does wonderful work and your items are all so useful. I agree, he could probably sell them if he wanted to. But he may be like the quilters and doesn't want to turn his hobby into a 'job'. Love them all!

First, he has made them for others and has also sold them at craft or quilt shows but not in a while. He is just very creative. We currently have 7 patent plaques on the wall from inventions in the nuclear business. (He was a nuclear engineer) Maybe we will consider an Etsy shop as someone suggested.
