Hi all, there is a lady selling a 201-3 in a cabinet on kijiji and she's accepted $50 as an offer from me. Its in good shape I think. I hope is sounds better than the 201k I had earlier. I'm hoping to keep this one and put in in my treadle once in a while and still keep the electric when I get lazy. Here's some pics from the add. It comes with the manual and attachments too. What do you guys think? I'm curious if I'm paying too much for this model, or if this is a good deal?

What makes something a "good deal"? I think $50 is OK for a cast iron 201, but other people may not. Singer 201s are an exceptional piece of engineering so if everyone realised that you'd be paying $400 for it.

My 201k is as quiet as a mouse, so I think your motor was probably dry. Might be something to look at for the next one. Singer gave a tube of lube (yes that was intentional) with the machine to encourage you to use it because it's important. My 201p (tan one) needed grease but where the grease went in was blocked. I opened the motor up and did it manually.

If it's not quiet, make it so

I picked it up today. Will post pics soon. It is a beauty and its from 1947-49.

RedSquirrel, would you mind checking the serial number?

It looks awful much like a 99

It has the plate on the top by the thread spindles - the stitch length selector is right for a 201 - the light is not on the front on all 201s. It is a 201-3 no potted motor. No white light switch
