Hooray for me!

I was browsing CL a couple weeks ago and came across a Bernina 1130 for sale at a very reasonable price. My quilting friends convinced me to look into it and then convince my DH that it was worth the $500 price tag. I did some research and found that what she was asking was less than half of what it was listed for on E-Bay and there were extras with it. The only thing missing is the cover and the machine is too heavy for me to carry around. I intend to put it into a sewing table I already have, so that didn't deter me at all. The seller's MIL had been a seamstress and this had been one of her machines. The seller doesn't sew, doesn't want to learn and had no idea of the value of the 1130, until someone else told her it was worth selling. I went over there yesterday and did a "test drive". It sewed perfectly and I now am the proud owner! One of my friends was a Bernina dealer some years ago and is coming over tomorrow morning to give it a thorough check up. The MIL must have loved this machine, because it was nearly spotlessly clean when I got it home and wiped it down. The manuals and information booklets look new and the extra feet that were included were each packaged in little re-sealable bags with the slightly yellowed instructions (which are in several languages, including Swedish). Oh yes, the seller threw in a dozen bobbins, too.:) I am a happy, happy camper!! :)

Lucky you!! I have a Bernina 1030 and it came with a heavy canvas cover. I bought it as an open box and have had no problems with it. JAF does sell Bernina bobbin on a card of 6. It is not sold under the Bernina brand but when you open them you will see the name stamp on the interior of each one. ENJOY!!!

Congratulations on your new machine. I purchased the Bernina 1020 in 1992 for $1300. It is a wonderful machine and have never had problems with it. I am diligent about having it cleaned every 1 to 1 1/2 yrs. Great machine, great buy. Lucky you, you will love it.

Congratulations! You will love it. I have a Bernina 1260 and do most of my piecing with it. I love how even the fabric feeds though. The hard cover that is used as a carrying case is awkward to use so you haven't missed anything by not having it. tip: buy two spare light bulbs for your machine. They have to be a Bernina bulb and are pricey at a shop so look on ebay compare and buy to put in your stash. The bulbs last for years so an older one will burn out on you.
