How to QUILT This?

1 Attachment(s)
This is a drawing of a quilt I made (KING SIZE) and now I am trying to figure out how to quilt it. I was thinking about a stencil in the main blocks but it is the alternating blocks (that are all the same) that are puzzling me. Any ideas would be very welcome. This is a surprise quilt for my parents who are celebrating their 50th anniversary in December and this quilt has to be done by then!!

Since the quilt itself has so much to it already, in my opinion, a small repeating pattern may work. But as I sit here a large, more spaced repeating pattern could also work. It all depends on the look you want, I suppose.

I am the type of quilter that likes the piecing be up front and what is noticed and not the quilting so I might just free motion in the ditch. You could also arc from the three points in a triangles. I would keep it simple because it must be a beautiful quilt.

I think if you tried to stitch in the ditch around all those many pieces, you'd never be done in time. It's a large quilt, with many pieces, so the quilting will not really show up a lot anyway (unless you did custom "quilted to death" quilting), so I think I would just quilt an allover pantograph. This quilt doesn't need knock-your-socks-off quilting to make it gorgeous---it's lovely on it's own. And if you keep the quilting simple, you'll be done in time. JMHO

It's so gorgeous that I would do something simple so it wouldn't take away from the beauty of the quilt.

If you have stencil in mind for the blocks, try to find parts of it that would work in the alternate blocks. I think a quilt looks better if the motifs have similar looks.
