Need ideas for new tradition.........
This will be my son & daughter-in-law's first Christmas as a married couple. I'd like to start a new tradition of giving them something every year, like an ornament or something. Any other ideas?

I would have loved to have our portraits done each year. We have been married 21 years, and do not have family portraits.
My former mil gave me a small family heirloom each year. The relationship with her son ended years before my current marriage, but I have all the items for my son when he wants them. |
A friend of ours gave us a White House Christmas ornament the first year we were married. Have been buying one for ourselves each year since. We've also given them to the nieces/nephews for their first Christmas. Very nice ornaments.

I like the ornament idea. Consider a outdoor perennial as well.

I like the ornament idea

An ornament is a very "traditional" tradition. I can't think of a better one!

Maybe share a traditional family recipe each year....in a basket of goodies

When my niece and nephew were young, I gave them tree ornaments every year starting with engraved ones for their first Christmas. Then my niece got possession of the doll house my uncle made for us girls when we were small. After that, I gave her things that could either/or/and be used in the doll house or go on the tree. They really appreciated them when they started out with their own trees to already have a supply of "special" ornaments.

A picture taken by the tree each year would be a treasure -- when the family grows the pictures keep track! My daughter in law gives us a calendar each year with pictures of family members. We keep each calendar and it has been fun to watch our family grow and change!!

Every year since 1970 I received a Wallace silverplate jingle bell from my aunt. When she passed away I bought them for myself. Now that my daughter and son are married I give all three of us one. For a few years I couldn't really afford to buy them for myself, but later filled in from e-bay! My daughter and daughter-in-law love the traditional aspect as well as the bling!
