Quilted Pot holders with insulbright
 

I am using insulbright and one layer of cotton batting and i am wondering if you put the shiny side of insulbright next to fabric or next to the cotton batting? Thanks you if anyone knows.:rolleyes:

The shiny side goes next to the side of the pot holder which touches the pot.

Thanks from me, too. I have some Insulbrite, but never used it before. I know I would have had the same question when I start to make my pot holders and hot pads.

I suggested to someone earlier today that they use one layer shiny side to back of fabric on both sides of batting for potholders. Hope this helps.

Thanks for asking this question. I've made quite a few potholders and was never sure which side went where.

I used a layer of insulbrite sandwiched between layers of flannel sandwiched between layers of decorative fabric. I didn't worry about the way the insulbrite faced since the shiny layer is shiny on both sides and is already between its own layers of batting.

One layer of insulbright isn't enough to insulate you from the heat. I use at least 3 layers of something in a pot holder to keep from getting burned. The additional layers can be cotton batting, old mattress pads, old towels, ... I wouldn't use polyester batting. It could be melted with the heat in an oven. I'm not even convinced that insulbright is needed. It was a solution to a perceived problem. I do have some, though and have used it.

Once the potholders are sewn together; you can't tell which side has the insulbrite on. Unless you mark on the outside which should touch the hot pan.

I use a layer of insulbrite and a layer of warm & natural. plus the to and bottom. Have never had a problem.
