Alternate use for bobbins?

Greetings!

I bought an small inexpensive box of bobbins because I wanted the box. Do you do anything creative with bobbins that don't fit your sewing machine? I'll probably just donate the bobbins to charity if I don't think of an alternate use for them.

If you do hand applique you can wind them with the thread you use --then you don't have to take large spools everywhere. I've also seen bobbins wound with different colors and used as a necklace.

This is a bit out there, but last year I wound some thread on a couple of bad bobbins to use for snowman eyes....the grandkids next door were thrilled...cuz their Oma was trying to figure out something to give them. She gave them the carrot and we used a piece of red pepper for the mouth.

I have a necklace made from one, Just a chain with a bobbin attached by a swivel.

How about embellishing a wreath with a sewing theme? You could attach the bobbins to it with ribbon and hang it in your sewing room.

If I was still a kid, I'd have found so many uses, for stray bobbins! Wheels for handmade cars, bases for sign sticks, cans of food for my dolls, tiny yo-yos, covered with crochet for huge buttons, strung together for noisy dolls . . . the list is endless. An imaginative child would love those bobbins!

When I do hand embroider I used to separate my thread every time I had to rethread my needle. One day I got the bright idea of separating my threads before I started and winding them on old bobbins. Not only did it save me time when I was working with it, it also kept the threads from getting in a tangled mess.

I usually check out www.sewmanyways.blogspot.com/ on Tuesdays for her recycle ideas. Today she made garland out of old plastic spools and buttons. I wonder if you could add bobbins into the garland. It was pretty cute and I wish I had saved some old spools.

They're great for travel. If the mouth of a small prescription bottle is big enough, you can use for go projects.

I use them on a serger for the needle threads. You can also fill them and use them for twin needle sewing. That way, you don't need two spools of thread.
