Please share your ideas for hidden storage

My new sewing room is in a somewhat common area so I want to do as much hidden storage as possible.

I found a long cabinet at a garage sale that has three doors and a shelf that goes the length. It isn't very tall so it sits under the window in my bedroom perfectly. I bought those fabric bins with the wire frame from Walmart, They fit very well, and store my fabric nicely. I keep my cutting board and rulers underneath. I have my machines sitting on top. We have just moved into this house, so I haven't had this setup for long. I plan on taking my machine to the dining table to sew.
Hope this gives you some ideas,Gina

Any piece of furniture with doors and/or drawers would store a lot of your stuff. Either a buffet or dresser. I bought an old wood buffet at a second hand store which doubles as my cutting table. It has two drawers in which I keep notions and thread. The bottom has doors with shelves inside for fabric. On the plus side, it is a pretty piece of furniture. A cutting mat can be stored behind it. So, go to your local second hand furniture stores and brain storm. You may come up with a nice piece of furniture, too! Good Luck!

The room available to me, had a few design issues for what I wanted. I think we need to work with the bones (walls and size) and map out the rest to get the best use of individual spaces. You can read my story and visit my blog for a more detailed description of what worked me. If you have questions-either reply or PM me.

I bought a changing table. Second hand store. Made a bed for the fur-babies out of the mattress. Put ALOT of fabric in the bottom drawers. The top 3 drawers that goes across, 1 has misc. stuff pens, pencils, rotary cutters, tweezers, screw drivers,.... I put small buckets I got at Hobby Lobby in the drawer to separate and keep things organized. 2nd drawer on top is perfect for folded fqs. 3rd drawer holds patterns perfectly. The rest of the drawers has fabric on comic boards, the fit like a dream in rolls, neatly and so easy to open the drawers and find what you need. The top was a almost near perfect fit for one of my larger cutting mats, so the top is now a cutting surface. When I 1st saw it, I thought it would be a good addition in the room, but boy it has been a dream piece of furniture in there. LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!

I don't have a sewing room, but I have my sewing notions, fabrics, and sewing machines stashed around the house. There is a built-in bench, coat hooks, and shelf in the area next to the back door. We really only use it for hanging our coats on the hooks and stashing the dog leashes in a basket. The rest of it has pretty baskets with my sewing notions. I have a large vintage picnic basket for my serger thread, a hanging fisherman's basket for zippers and tapes, and laundry baskets under the bench for interfacings, etc.

In the guest bedroom I have a row of those large canvas bins to hold my dress patterns. Underneath the upholstered pillow in my great-grandmother's wicker pram lie a stack of "de-boned" shirts for my next quilt. My small stash of quilting fabrics occupy a shelf in my computer closet in the same room. The outer layer of my 24" X 48" plywood ironing surface is covered in a coordinating decorator fabric. I hide my cutting mats and large June Tailor shape cutter under the guest bed.

I moved my vintage Bernina sewing machine and its table to the sitting area of my master bedroom. It sits in front of a large picture window so I can look outside at the woods and watch TV if I want. The refinished table that I used as a desk now holds my vintage Singer machine. Lots of little decorative tins, and boxes hold presser feet, bobbins, and thread. I have another picnic basket in there.

I was able to keep things neat and mostly hidden away but my whole house looks messy and cluttered now because I've taken on staying with my Mom every morning and still work half a day. I still sew every day for an hour or so, mostly clothing for myself, but one day soon I will de-clutter and get ready to make another quilt.

Your gonna laugh!!! I have a "dead" fridge that holds a lot of fabric. LOL

My big cutting mat lives between the refrigerator and the wall in the kitchen, because that is where it fits and is invisible, not that it stays there very often....
