question

Hi I have made a couple of rag quilts but was wondering if anyone knew if I could mix denim and flannel together on the top? I have seen denim on top and flannel on the bottom but have not seen it together on the top. I think it would work just wondering if anyone out there has done it. I was also thinking of doing it in strips instead of squares (just for something different)

You sure can mix them! Strips would be interesting, how wide were you thinking? Also, rag quilts are quite heavy so make sure that your strip idea won't make too many additional seams (which add to the weight).
Welcome to the board.

I mix all kinds of fabrics on rag quilts, denim, flannel and cotton. Denim adds a lot of weight to the quilt.

I like to mix flannel and corduroy. Denim will also add a nice texture to the quilt.

Using denim will make the quilt heavier for sure! but as other's have stated it will work.

You can make them any shape you want. I have seen shapes of pumpkins in a F&P magazine. Simplicity Pattern 2493 has got shapes of animals made out of a rag rug. Real cut for a little one!!

Thank you so much ladies. I only planned to have 3-4 strips of denim and the strips I was thinking 3-4 inches wide. Haven't really got a pattern I was going to use
