Downton Abbey Fabric line

Anybody hooked on the new Downton Abbey Fabrics? I find that I like but don't *love* them. Maybe I need to see how the different pieces work up into some quilts before I jump on board.

Im with you, I like them, but I don't get that feeling like I better rush right out and buy some before it's gone, you know what I mean? And yes some fabrics have made me feel that way, like Oh my gosh I have to have some of that!! LOL Are'nt we silly!!

I had heard they were dark colors but these don't look too bad. I just haven't felt the need to buy fabric for a while -- unless it is at least 50% off!

I wasn't drawn to the colors in the fabrics. I 'like' them and was looking forward to them, but won't be purchasing them. I believe they are very 'period' specific with the colors and patterns though.

Looked them all over yesterday and it just 'didn't do it' for me.

Initially these fabrics didn't do anything for me ~ from a quilting perspective.

Then, I realized that while many quilters are DA fans, the show was not made for quilters. Instead, these fabrics (which they advertise are by Ralph Lauren) are designed for the home dec and fashion. If I keep that in mind, then I can really see the beauty. Mostly what I plan with these is larger items, such as pillows and a few seat cushions. I would like to try some kind of 'tapestry' looking quilt that uses bigger chunks of the fabric, but haven't found the 'it' design just yet. I'm hoping to eventually have at least a yard of each of these to work with ...

Love Downtown Abby, not too excited about the fabric. Good idea, but not for quilting. Just my opinion.

MeLuvQuilts -- they are in quilters' cotton though, and marketed with fat quarter collections, so apparently the quilt market is at least part of their target demographic. If I had unlimited time and resources, I think it would be fun to play around with designing patterns that really suit the prints and say something about the show's characters. However, I realistically don't have the time or the energy, and I'd probably rather spend my $ on other fabrics (because, yes, I too sometimes just *have* to buy a new line the very minute I see it, ahem, KateSpainandTulaPink.)

If I had the dollars right now I would snap them up and I haven't even watched downton Abby. I want to though. It's in my wish list. I would pass this up though for tula pinks line called birds and bees I believe. It has squirrels in it and it's a gotta have it go broke for it line for me. These fabrics would be second in my go broke for line up.

If you go to the Andover web site, there are a variety of patterns that you can get for free. The patterns go along with the fabric line. The blocks can be done with various "lines" of the Downton Abbey fabric.

Fabric emphasis colors that I've seen in the fabrics are black, grey, cream, burgundy, floral.
I've seen some of the blocks and they are quite nice. But it's individual taste.
