Just received this email today and wondered if it is worth $52.00/month for a miniature quilt kit. I've never done a miniature quilt and just wonder if it is meant to be hand stitched rather than machine stitched.

Also, would FMQ not be needed on small quilts like these?

I love the fabric choices for the quilts but I just don't see spending that much on a quilt that doesn't have a practical purpose....unless after all the miniature quilt tops were made then they could all be incorporated into one quilt top.

Does anyone have any experience with the FQS and clubs?

I've never made a miniature quilt either, but I'd think that for $52.00 a month one could make several full sized quilts over the course of a year. I have enough scraps, and have seen many patterns for mini-quilts that I'm totally confident that I could make my own and save the $52.00/month. That is a LOT of money!!!

Hmm 52.50 plus 4.95 a month in shipping- that seems pretty pricey! Miniature quilts seem kind of trendy right now, I know Camille Roskelly did a bunch for Fall market and they were well received. I would think the money would be better spent on one good book about miniature quilts and a bundle of fat quarters...

I buy fabric and kits and all more than anything else at home but I can't justify the price of $57.45 for a quilt that size. The biggest quilt offered is 28.5" square and they can easily be done with scraps for their sizes. JMHO

I have made miniature log cabin quilts out of regular quad graph paper trying to use my batik scraps. One thing it does not do is use fabric. After one, there are still many scraps. I would think that is alot to pay for a miniature kit. I stitch in the ditch with invisible thread in between the blocks. They are 3" square. Anything else would compete with all that work that went into the log cabin blocks.

I'm with you that kind of money would buy a good deal of yardage for a bed quilt.

I think that is a lot on a monthly basis. If a minature quilt is something you really want to do, why not look for patterns for minature quilts find one you like and then go through your stash. Even if you do't have everything in your stash you will be able to buy what is needed to fill in for a lot less than $60. Plus what if you don't like one of the month's quilts? That is a lot to pay for something you aren't crazy about.

That is definitely more money than I would want to spend.

what does one do with a miniature quilt anyways? sorry, newbie question

I think that price is outrageous for a little quilt made from cotton. I've seen kits for little quilts made from wool with high prices, but for a kit with cotton, this is outlandish.
At our guild meeting last night, the owner of a new local quilt shop presented a program. She offered membership in this same Kim Diehl BOM program at her shop, one Saturday each month from July-December, and the cost to join the club is $20--total, not per meeting. She said she'll have kits available at the monthly meetings, when we'll get the printout of the instructions, but I'd be surprised to see prices this high. Little quilts take fractions of yards to make, and I don't see how the high price you mentioned can be justified.
