Anyone know how to edit photos in Windows 8 - please NOT Paint

Anyone know how to edit pictures in Windows 8? I had Vista before and it was really easy to open pictures, crop them top, bottom, sides independently, adjust exposure and lighting. I can't find that feature now on 8. I have found Paint but I'm NOT liking the cropping on there as it seems to just do a rectangle and cannot adjust the picture the way I want. I took a class and was told to go to File Explorer, click Pictures, right click on any picture, and chose default program, and click Windows Photo Viewer and it will look like Windows 7 and it does but I can't find any cropping tools, exposure tool adjustments, etc. Anyone have any suggestions on this? Have you found something that works?

Have you looked at Picasa by Google. It's a free download. It should do all the things you want to do and pretty easy to use.

Photoshop has a help section and all you have to do is watch the videos or follow the tutorials. There are tons of videos on Youtube and free downloads as well. Go to the section that has window written on it and find the tools pallette. You can leave it open so that you can select the cropping tool etc.

I use my Microsoft Office picture manager that I moved from my work Windows 7 software. It seems to work well.

I use GIMP, also a free download. What I really liked was Microsoft's Digital Image, but W8 erased it, along with a bunch of other programs, such as QuiltPro and my new Quicken. GRRRR

Go to your pictures. Select the one you want to work on. On the top will be boxes. The second box from the right will have "Properties" and some greyed out items. Select the "properties" then push edit. The 2nd box from the left will have "Crop/ Resize etc. Pick the one you want and it will crop/rotate/resize, et.al. I know this sounds like alot of steps but it really is easy once you do it a couple of times. :)

I am going to try that myself. Thanks, Christy!

Seaside gal, I don't know how to do anything on Windows 8, sorry. I have a new computer since Christmas and I HATE Windows 8! :-)
I use Irfanview for editing pictures, or I did prior to new computer.
