Cutting boarders

When you cut boarders or sashings for your quilts, do you usually cut them on the width of the material,
or the length of the material?
Thanks.

I usually use the width of fabric.

I prefer to cut them lengthwise if I have enough fabric. I have done them both ways, it's just a preference.

I do lengthwise when I can, because the lengthwise grain is less stretchy. However, I have also pieced them from width-of-fabric cuts.

I have done both, but try to do by the length when I can. I like borders that are not pieced. I don't mind the binding being pieced, but the border can be more noticable.

Sorry I misspelled borders.

I was wondering if they cut up well!

I prefer length of fabric.

However, if necessary I will adapt.

If I have enough fabric, I like cutting them lengthwise as the fabric isn't as stretchy but otherwise, I do cut them crosswise. Also prefer borders that aren't pieced, which unless less than the width of the fabric, the length of fabric allows for no piecing.

I prefer to not piece my borders so will cut them lengthwise when I can. Usually that means I've bought the fabric with that in mind. Also means that doesn't happen often. Mostly I use what fabric I have on hand when I make a quilt and fill in with new fabrics as needed. This means I don't have enough to cut lengthwise and will cut them widthwise. Not my preference, but I seem to do it often.

I generally don't mind pieced borders so will cut WOF. However, the baby quilt I just finished I was using a very directional fabric for the borders so it was LOF for the sides. What was I thinking when I picked out that fabric????
