Don't Overload the Washer -- Tragic Pictures
 

I've washed dozens of queen and king sized quilts in my washer without ever having a problem. Today there was a horrid screeching sound and I rushed in to find this mess. It was my newly completed Celtic Solstice. At least the worst of it is on the back. Now, I'm working on a brilliant plan to save it. Some kind of applique I suppose would work best, but I'm open to ideas.

OH NO! I would be in tears on the floor. Please gently feel along the agitator in your machine for some rough edges. File them down if they are there. Don't want an instant replay of this problem.

Do you have more of the orange? You can applique the same shape right over the damaged block. If you have more of the backing you can do the same.

That's what I'm thinking, too, Dakotamaid. I just have to quit feeling sorry for myself first.

Oh no. When a friend of mine discovers a block that is not "right" after she has quilted her quilt. She appliques a new block over it and then requilts that area. No one is ever the wiser.

Lisa, have a good cry and than get to work. You have already done so much work on this that it is worth a bit more work. You can always put a label on the back that tells the story!! LOL!!

Just applique over the piece with the same size piece, quilt over it and you'll have a hard time finding the repair. I had a quilt all quilted once and I discovered a backward block to a sawtooth star. I did this and i now can't find it, even after several washings.

When you mentioned some kind of applique to cover up the damage, my first thought went back to the cute quilt someone posted a while back with the profile of the cat looking into the quilt. Tragedies like this are so disappointing but I'm sure you'll find a way to make it work.
