I-Spy quilt backing?

Does anyone have suggestions for fabric that might be good for the back of an I spy quilt? I'm looking for under $8 a yard; I usually use fabric.com but will look elsewhere- free shipping is a huge +.

I was thinking something like Where's Waldo, or a busy fabric with lots to search through, but can't find anything I really like. It can't be "boy" or "girl" because I don't know who the blanket will go to.

I don't really want to piece the back, but maybe that is the better way to go...

Thanks for the suggestions!

How about some of the map fabrics that are out there? Joann's usually has some and with a coupon it would be in your price range.

Sock monkeys are either sex, too.

Try a search for novelty fabrics and see what grabs you.

Your ideas are great! You're on the right track. Just about any busy fabric with something kids like would look good.

I like to look around at www.thousandsofbolts.com They have a novelty area that seems to have a good selection. I got a great deal on many MANY yards of a Christmas fabric for about $4.50/yd. Guess what will be backing all the quilts I give for Christmas this year??!?

In order to keep the learning theme going, I always back mine with either an alphabet pattern or a numbers pattern. JoAnn's has a cute alphabet fabric using primary colors that would be well within your budget, especially using a coupon. Here's the link: http://www.joann.com/novelty-cotton-...4&prefv1=false

I'd be inclined to use a very simple and visually restful fabric for the backing of such a busy quilt. If not a solid, them maybe a black and white grid, or a chevron. It would make a nice rest from all the riot of color and image of an I spy.

I like to use fleece because it is cozy for kids. :o

I have really good luck with Etsy.com - its all independent sellers and you can find really good deals - you may have to go through pages of stuff but if you keep looking you should find what you need at a good price - sometimes shipping is free or very low. I would suggest some busy kids fabric with a lot of action going on. Good luck.
