Update on my Singer 306 that was FREE (!)

She is fixed, runs just fine (I think, haven't actually spoken to shop but they said come and get 'er) and I pick her up this weekend. I am so excited to sew on this machine. I'll post some pics when I get her back.

I got a free 319K a few weeks ago. Funny what people will give away isn't it?
My machine's bight control was seized, but after disassembly and cleaning it runs and looks better than any machine in my collection. Did some blind hemming on it yesterday and it was magnificent. Pity the needles are getting a bit scarce.

I would LOVE to get my hands on a green one. Black is nice too though.
Which color did you get? Is it a free-arm?
Where are all the pix in this thread?
It might as well be in braille. :hunf:

319s are never free arms (those are all 320Ks and I have one).
My 319 is green, as is the 320. I've had four 319s and they've all been green: The black ones are totally beautiful but I've never seen one in person.
All the 306s I've had have been tan.
Here's the freebie:

And here is the 320K:

I stopped using the 320K when there was something I needed special needles for. Still love it though.
Here is a 306:

And here is the cast iron industrial version, the 206K10. The 206 was the first one to use the shorter needles (the needle size was named after it - 206x13).

Thanks for all the info on the 306. I purchased a black, one last summer and finally got around to ordering the bobbins and needles from the internet. It only came with 2 bobbins and the one needle. Couldn't find needles other than size 12 and 14 so I'm guessing that's the only size they made for this machine. Now I need to get it out and sew in it - along with all my other "babies". I'm going up to the Lancaster, PA show and I just might find something new from the vendor I've purchased from many times before. He's over at the Comtinental Hotel show - Pennsylvania Quilter is the vendor's name.

Oh forgot - and the 319 looks fabulous. Don't have a single machine in green (would love to find a nice 185) so might have to put the 319 on my wish list! And yes, I admit to a vintage Singer addiction! And in forgot to sign my last post -

Sandy in Mooresville, NC - where it's sleeting at the moment and has been since last night. Tomorrow will be in the low 60s - what a strange winter!!!!

Totally jelly of your freebie Singer... such a pretty blue! I said I wouldn't have more than two, now I'm thinking... my husband will kill me though.

She's here! They did a perfunctory cleanup job, so I see some time with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol in my near future. But she's back and she WORKS and omgoodness the stitching! I did a quick test. This machine runs like BUTTER. Amazing. I think it's barely been used. Needed nothing more than a cleanup job.

Interesting: repair guy said it takes a standard sewing needle? So many here have told me that the 306K needs the 206x13 needle, right?

I can't wait until I have some free time to get down with the manual and then I'll behaving some fun. Repair guy said this machine does a blind stitch. I don't really know what that is, but I do know it's handy.

Can finally finish my doll quilt, will post some pics of that soon.

Repair guy is wrong. I'd think about a new one.
