Wrapping baby quilt?
Hi-
I recently made a baby quilt for a woman I work with who is having a baby girl. Does anyone have any creative or "modern" way to wrap the quilt? I know I can use wrapping paper or a gift bag..just curious. Thanks, JC |
I sometimes make a matching receiving blanket and wrap a baby gift in that. I use pacifiers, toys, etc in place of a bow.

I'm always looking for good ideas too. Gift Wrapping is so expensive!
The only thing I can think of is going to involve a little bit more sewing! Buy some flannel when it's on sale and watch the self-binding baby blanket tutorial from Missouri Star Quilt Company. I've made this quilt and it turns out really cute. You take a 40" square and a 30" square of flannel and put them right sides together. The video gives you all of the important measurements, but this little receiving blanket can easily be made in an hour. Wrap this receiving blanket around your quilt and use a baby diaper pin to hold it together. Two gifts in one! Here's a link to the video so you don't have to search for it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqwdNqMZ8Ro |
Thanks PlanoDebbie, I'm going to use that idea also. Thanks for the link. :)

I used the February project of the month pillow case to wrap a recent baby quilt gift. Did you have a look at that posting?
|
Thimblebug6000, When I originally started creatively wrapping baby quilts I thought of pillowcases. But very few or none at all, of my recipients use pillows for their children. :) Hence the receiving blankets.
|
I have also used the pillowcase idea like the Feb project tutorial and told them the pillowcase could be used on the after-crib toddler bed or used to store the quilt.

I usually roll mine and just tie with a fabric bow. Always well received.

You can make an organza bag with French seams. They stitch up real quick. Or I'm always looking for cute baskets at the dollar store and place the quilt in the basket and wrap with cellophane with a big bow and pacifier. It makes a great show when at a baby shower. People oh and ah because you can see thru the cellophane. They really stand out. Sometimes the dollar store has wire baskets that are great for wrapping in cellophane. I usually buy them all when I find them for future use.

I roll mine, then roll tissue paper around it, and tie the ends like a piece of wrapped candy (think Tootsie Roll).
